17:29:00 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
That 30 day lock is perhaps the last speed bump to protect a registrant who has just had their domain name hijacked. That's part of the security idea. It stops a hijacked domain name being hopped across a number of registrars to make recovery difficult.
17:29:48 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
They do that with expired domain names.
17:30:20 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
A stolen or hijacked domain name is different from an expired domain name.
17:30:42 From Shah Rahman to Everyone:
Reacted to "A stolen or hijacked..." with
17:35:11 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:
Not really.  Some domains expired because end users were never notified as the company registering it did not inform the person who owned the domain.
17:35:31 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
There are some quick transfers options but they are often on the same registrar.
17:36:21 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:
I know several end users who did not realize they used companies who did not register them properly and did not know they were transferred
17:38:07 From Shah Rahman to Everyone:
Replying to "Not really.  Some do..."

generally register suppose to send notification certain period before expirer date to the registered registrant email addree
17:39:51 From Laura Margolis to Everyone:
But is also the domain owner's responsability to know he should renew the domain.
17:40:13 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
Sometimes a web developer will register a customer's domain name in their name rather than the customer's and this causes some problems with no e-mails being received.
17:40:20 From Laura Margolis to Everyone:
also many times email contacts are not updated
17:40:27 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:
@Laura Margolis yes that is true, but end users are not really  knowledgeable about this
17:40:45 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:

17:41:18 From Faheem Soomro to Everyone:
    Kindly share google DOC link
17:41:19 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:
Replying to "Sometimes a web deve…"
Exactly. That happened to several end users I know of and that is how they missed those emails and their domain got hijacked
17:41:20 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
Is the googledoc set to comment-only?
17:41:49 From Laura Margolis to Everyone:
Replying to "Sometimes a web deve..."

this happens a lot yes, but that is because owner doesn't know and trusts the designer. Many times designers end disappearing... and problems start
17:41:58 From Shah Rahman to Everyone:
Thank you @Steinar Grøtterød (At-Large) will review the doc
17:42:32 From Judith Hellerstein to Everyone:
Replying to "Sometimes a web deve…"
@Laura Margolis exactly.  Happens often sad to say
17:42:33 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
@Steinar Grøtterød (At-Large) you should retain edit rights to yourself, and let others have commenting rights
17:42:41 From avri doria to Everyone:
comment only is pretty good. yes, much easier to track.
17:42:46 From Shah Rahman to Everyone:

Happens a lot with "companies" being started by students during the summer holidays. They go back to school/college and forget about the company.
17:46:25 From Gopal Tadepalli to Everyone:
@Steinar Grøtterød (At-Large) TKS. There are three concerns in the 60 Days Lock-in. They are: Security, Stability, Disputes. In the past if someone stole a domain, the malicious person would move the domain away from the owner's account, once the real owner complained and tracked his domain to a particular registrar, the malicious person transferred it again to another one. So, the lock-in should be longer. 30 days has always been counter - intuitive and experience for me. - Dr. T V Gopal, Anna University, Chennai, INDIA
17:51:25 From Steinar Grøtterød (At-Large) to Everyone:
    Replying to "@Steinar Grøtterød (..."

Thanks for the input @Gopal Tadepalli . The basic idea is that updated security requirements in the proposed Transfer Policy should reduce domain hijacking. Further - the number og hijacking is very low. In my view, 30 days post-registration and post-transfer lock is sufficient.
17:52:02 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
Bill and Alan are on the other call
17:52:40 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:

where can we see information on the number of hijackings?
17:57:13 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
Sure. I'd like to come in from the angle of needing to retain registry commitments.
17:58:20 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:

17:58:25 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
We may need to push back against standardising RAs where it makes little sense to standardize.
17:59:41 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
In light of the community consultation on RVCs that took place up to ICANN79 and onward.
18:02:03 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
