Terri Agnew: (5/18/2015 14:50) Dear all, welcome to the At-Large Technology Taskforce meeting on the 18th May 2015 at 14:00 UTC
Terri Agnew: (14:50) meeting page: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/vjnvBQ
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (15:52) Hello everyone!
Chris Gift: (15:57) hello
judith hellerstein: (16:00) HI all
Beran Gillen: (16:00) hi everyone
Evan Leibovitch: (16:00) AOL Cds also made great coasters. Serve me well that way.
judith hellerstein: (16:01) Yes Evan I have used this as well
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:01) Hello Beran
judith hellerstein: (16:01) Hi Beran
judith hellerstein: (16:01) I also agree with Evan
Beran Gillen: (16:01) hi @judith
Chris Gift: (16:01) I had a Facebook account for a number of years but I struggled with the privacy issues and eventually closed my account. But over the past two years mny of my friends have continued to pressure to reopen my account. I may buckle :)
Nathalie Peregrine: (16:04) Murray McKercher has joined the AC room
Murray McKercher: (16:04) Hello everyone, Sorry I am late..
Evan Leibovitch: (16:04) I feel your pain, Chris, I was in the same situation. I am rooting for alternatives such as Ello (of which I am member and encourage people to check out) but FB has an unbeatable mass of community size.
judith hellerstein: (16:05) we just started a few minutes ago so you did not miss anything
Evan Leibovitch: (16:05) Hi Murray!
Murray McKercher: (16:05) @evan good morning
Evan Leibovitch: (16:06) Morning? It's 16:06 here :-)
Murray McKercher: (16:07) @Evan OK correction - Good Afternoon, does this mean you are joining EURALO :)
Evan Leibovitch: (16:07) Dual citizenship ;-) I've already attended an ISOC-CH event.
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:08) See Rec 11 page about TTF on captioning : https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/display/atlarge/ATLAS2+Recommendation+11
Murray McKercher: (16:08) @Dev - Thanks for that link
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:09) kavi - http://www.kavi.com/
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:10) Kavi Features: http://www.kavi.com/products/features/
Chris Gift: (16:12) https://icann.kavi.com/kws/public
Murray McKercher: (16:13) @ Chris, My vote would be for a structured platform as opposed to the open wiki model for official documentation
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (16:14) Christ: the platform seems pretty empty at the moment. Could you please take us through an example on how it would be used?
Murray McKercher: (16:14) @ Chris Thanks
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:14) Notificatiions : http://www.kavi.com/products/features/notifications/
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (16:14) Christ -> Chris :-)
Evan Leibovitch: (16:14) Whew, I thought you were swearing at him.
Chris Gift: (16:16) :)
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:16) sorry chris
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:16) you'll be next
Murray McKercher: (16:16) @Evan you audio is low
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:19) Project views is also interesting : http://www.kavi.com/products/features/projects/
Murray McKercher: (16:20) @Chris and @ Olivier, is the current Wiki Process lacking and therefore needs to be replaced or is Kavi proposed as an augment to the current system?
Chris Gift: (16:22) @Olivier -- that is one of the challenges of Kavi. It does a lot, but that can be an issue. And the UI is a little dated.
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (16:22) @Chris: thanks
Chris Gift: (16:22) @Murray Our goal is that it would complement the wiki
Chris Gift: (16:25) @murray it does have a notion of 'process' and as such events can be triggered. It also has a great number of automated features for managing the working group.
Murray McKercher: (16:25) @ Dev OK, thanks understood
Ariel Liang: (16:26) Another potential benefit is that ALAC members can vote on the Statement directly via Kavi, so everything will be in one place
Chris Gift: (16:26) More information on the pilot can be found here https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/digitalservices/pages/111542336/Working+Group+Management
Ariel Liang: (16:26) right now the ALAC is voting via BigPulse, a seperate platform
Nathalie Peregrine: (16:28) everyone can scroll
judith hellerstein: (16:28) Yes
Murray McKercher: (16:28) Re: Glenn..today is an official holiday in Canada, may be an issue for Glenn
judith hellerstein: (16:30) Are we going to be testing Zoom
Chris Gift: (16:30) We tested Hipchat for internal use. We liked it.
Ariel Liang: (16:30) Re Rec 26 (policy management process system), the At-Large Website redesign is going to help implement it to some degree. Please stay tuned and we will have some update during ICANN 53
Murray McKercher: (16:32) @ Dev I am aware PGP was a reasonable ( Pretty Good Privacy ) for private email
Beran Gillen: (16:35) i use zoom for other conference calls I participate in and its pretty good
Beran Gillen: (16:35) group chat, private chat
Murray McKercher: (16:35) @Judith I also use zoom and quite like it
Beran Gillen: (16:35) muting the microphone is also an option
judith hellerstein: (16:35) http://tinyurl.com/pv3mgdw
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:36) https://www.loomio.org/
judith hellerstein: (16:36) Here is the link to the monthly report template
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:37) Rec 31 : ICANN and the ALAC should investigate the use of simple tools and methods to facilitate participation in public comments, and the use of crowdsourcing.
Chris Gift: (16:38) Another one to look at is http://ideascale.com/
Chris Gift: (16:38) it's an ideation tool
judith hellerstein: (16:39) The link I posted was for the monthly report template
Chris Gift: (16:39) Given these requirements I would definitely look at IdeaScale. We're very interested in it.
Chris Gift: (16:40) Yes, I've heard of that as well
Chris Gift: (16:40) We used IdeaScale for the panels...remember those??
Chris Gift: (16:41) :)
Murray McKercher: (16:49) @ Olivier It would be a shame to loose the momentum
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (16:49) @Murray - absolutely agreed
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (16:49) this is something that's eating the back of my mind on a weekly basis....
judith hellerstein: (16:51) @beran do you know the people who did the Gambia remote hub?
judith hellerstein: (16:52) What did they think about it
judith hellerstein: (16:52) Also ask Joly as he ran the NY hub. He is busy filming right now
Murray McKercher: (16:53) sounhds like an action item for me, Glem and Joly from ISOC NYC
Dev Anand Teelucksingh: (16:55) TTF call on Remote Hubs : https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/atlarge/pages/99555706/Technology+Taskforce+meeting+2015-03-30
Murray McKercher: (16:55) @ Ariel, yes please keep me involved
judith hellerstein: (16:55) @dev let's move the show and tell- skype translator to another meeting
judith hellerstein: (16:57) yes
Chris Gift: (16:57) yes
Beran Gillen: (16:59) @judith yes i do
Beran Gillen: (16:59) I know them very well
Beran Gillen: (16:59) i could get feedback from them
Chris Gift: (17:01) @dev You're cutting out, at least for me.
Nathalie Peregrine: (17:01) @ Chris, I'm on the audio bridge and audio is fine.
Chris Gift: (17:01) ok
Nathalie Peregrine: (17:01) You might wan to dial into the Aidog birdge #1638
judith hellerstein: (17:01) Yes. I think that would be helpful. The more feedback we get from the remore hubs the better
Beran Gillen: (17:02) no problem @judith
Chris Gift: (17:05) I realize everyone is wedded to listserv technology, as email is the favorite means of interaction. However, take a look at http://www.discourse.org/ It offers translation as well.
judith hellerstein: (17:09) We could test discourse in a future call
judith hellerstein: (17:09) good idea
judith hellerstein: (17:10) @Ariel and Nathalie pelase remember to add as an action item testing of Zoom
Chris Gift: (17:10) @dev I'll ping Josh and see where he's at.
Nathalie Peregrine: (17:11) Dev, Adigo is dialing to your mobile
judith hellerstein: (17:12) Problem with skype translator only works for windows
Chris Gift: (17:12) Oh?
judith hellerstein: (17:12) does not yet work for mac and IOS
Nathalie Peregrine: (17:12) @ Judith, Zoom added to the testing AIs
Murray McKercher: (17:13) yes
judith hellerstein: (17:13) @dev your sound is very low
judith hellerstein: (17:14) but my skype account is not the same as my microsoft account
judith hellerstein: (17:14) no real way to merge them
Evan Leibovitch: (17:14) Can I use this now? I have both MS and Skype accounts now.
Murray McKercher: (17:14) @ Evan Microsft 8
Murray McKercher: (17:14) only, I believe
Evan Leibovitch: (17:15) You mean Windows 8? I have that too (if I reboot)
Murray McKercher: (17:15) sorry Windows 8
Murray McKercher: (17:15) You also ned a microsoft account according to Dev
Evan Leibovitch: (17:16) I am booting into Win8 now.
Evan Leibovitch: (17:16) What do I need to do?
Murray McKercher: (17:17) would like to learn more but must end my call...perhaps we can test this with a group going forward
Chris Gift: (17:18) too funny :)
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (17:18) I like the disclaimer, in case the translation starts swearing :-)
judith hellerstein: (17:18) How does it compare with google translate
Evan Leibovitch: (17:18) Can you add me to the convo? I have that (Skype from the windows store)
Ariel Liang: (17:18) that is highly likely Olivier
Chris Gift: (17:18) I'm not buying the disclaimer!
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (17:18) *Will the translator sound like Stephen Hawking?
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (17:19) Is this translation from Chinese to Chinese?
Chris Gift: (17:20) that's impressive.
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (17:20) aah very cool.
Ariel Liang: (17:20) it works like this: Dev (EN) --> Skype (ZH) --> Ariel (ZH) --> Skype (EN)
judith hellerstein: (17:21) @ariel how is the translation?
Chris Gift: (17:22) a bit slow, and makes for a stilted conversation. But still very interesting.
judith hellerstein: (17:22) I think I still prefer google translate
Evan Leibovitch: (17:24) Installing now.... I see why Chris doesn't like the terms.
judith hellerstein: (17:25) Yes I did not hear the synthesizer either
Chris Gift: (17:25) @olivier good point. I didn't hear anything either.
Evan Leibovitch: (17:27) Just installed, want to see if it works in a multi-way call?
Evan Leibovitch: (17:28) OK
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: (17:29) Does the NSA sometimes give its point of view as well?
Evan Leibovitch: (17:29) It depends, what language do you want it in?
judith hellerstein: (17:30) NO
Evan Leibovitch: (17:31) Interesting, the spoken only works for 4 languages but the text transcription supports many more
Evan Leibovitch: (17:32) (including Servian and Mayan!)
Evan Leibovitch: (17:32) Haitian Creole!
judith hellerstein: (17:33) Of course we have the TTF call at BA
Chris Gift: (17:33) bye!
Evan Leibovitch: (17:33) bye all.
Gordon Chillcott: (17:33) Thanks - Bye, all!
Ariel Liang: (17:33) thanks all bye!
