ALAC Meeting With Registrars - 16.03.11
Summary Minutes of ALAC Meeting with the Registrars -
CLO brought up the issue of information that the At-Large community could use.
AG: Website needs search engine optimization.
Registrar - Re-seller model, we’ve noted that issue.
Sandra Hoferichter: short video on work of registrars – would be useful for outreach events
Rudi Vansnick: We need to make a distinction between endusers and consumers. End-user is not necessarily looking for a domain name, but for information.
Registrar: We need to focus on what type of information end-users need. What exactly would you like us to focus on?
Michele: What exactly are you asking for?
EL: It would be good for consumers to know exactly what their rights are. We are interested in some kind of result of informing consumers to understand what happens once they own a Domain Name and how to keep it.
Michele: Registrars do send registrants such information. How do you get them to actually read it? I’m happy to discuss this.
Fatimata: We’d like to see a simple guide on Registrants
AG: We want registrars to be seen as the guys in the white hats.
Lutz: how many registrars are fulfilling the procedure of Whois (registrars, when required to comply with local law… (follow up).
Tim Cole: To his understanding, no ICANN accredited registrar is not complying with this.
Action Items:
