Roberto Gaetano - Activities in ICANN
Roberto Gaetano has been the Internet Policy Advisor at the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) and has participated in this capacity to the processes that eventually led to the creation of ICANN. In particular, he has been a member of the Policy Oversight Committee (POC), a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Registrars (CORE) and a member of the Steering Committee of the International Forum for the White Paper (IFWP).
In ICANN he has been active in the creation of the Protocol Supporting Organization (PSO), in which ETSI has been accepted as founding member, and in the creation of the Domain Name Supporting Organization (DNSO), becoming also the first Chairperson of the DNSO General Assembly.
Later he has been an ALAC member, the ALAC Liaison to the ICANN Board, and a NomCom appointed voting member of the ICANN Board, serving also as Vice-Chair for two years. Other activities in the Internet community include six years in the Board of Public Interest Registry (PIR), the manager of .org, including three years as Chairperson. He has also been instrumental to the creation of the EURALO Internet Users Association, the body that provides a home for the EURALO Individual Members.
On top of the activities regarding Internet policy, Roberto Gaetano is an amateur saxophonist, and has contributed to the creation of the Global Equal Multi-Stakeholder (GEMS) band, that plays regularly at ICANN meetings as well as other Internet related events worldwide.
