Sivasubramanian M:Gleen, the line in Canada must be more advanced
Carlos Dionisio Aguirre:I hear music
Glenn McKnight:Not sure but when Gisella was speaking she wasn't very clear
Eduardo Diaz:the music is coming from the adobe connection
Wolf Ludwig:@Gisella: Just received a SMS from Yulyia M. -- she is waiting for a dial-out to join this call!

Glenn McKnight:Who is TT?
TT:roflol!
TT:TT = Titi Akinsanmi
Glenn McKnight:Thanks
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:APRALO certainly supports the cincept of FUTURE courses being offered with rmote options... Thanks for clafifying this Raquel
Sivasubramanian M:got disconnected, (mymistake)
Carlos Dionisio Aguirre:we need to distinguish between ICANN academy for newcommers and Outreach program
Sivasubramanian M:some comments on the remote participation suggestion:
Sivasubramanian M:1) even though the program is for the chosen ones, the content is valuable, so an alterante solution could be attempted at a negligible cost
Wolf Ludwig:@Carlos: Agree with you!
Raquel Gatto:thanks, @avri, completely understand your points
Oksana Prykhodko:Who will translate materials of ICANN Academy? 20 hours is great piece of job, but some summaries can be used for capacity building programs, such as national IGF, for example
Sivasubramanian M:a(1) we can think of archiving the lessons for reference in place of the remote participation idea
Sivasubramanian M:2) we can place th archived material for community translation by the respective communities
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:of course remote options do allow for a multilingual approach but we still need to ensure that our reps can function in the ICANN world in the language it uses locally (=and Globally) Regions I would assume still oporate in local major langiages... EN proficiency is still however at this stage a Main Langiuage in ICANN and we hobbel our effectoivness if our leadership and reps can not oporate in it
Sivasubramanian M:at large structures could call for volunteers in their region to offer to summarize / translate in their local language
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:That said I support use of interpretaion in long sessions for productivity advantages wherever possible
Sivasubramanian M:3) in place of the remote participation idea,we could think of a moodle version of an academy following the first or first few face to face sessions for a larger audience
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:Yes Siva man e-learning tools would be aplicable herey
Sivasubramanian M:i can build a moodle framework for trial
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:should read many e-learning tools would be applicable here...
Glenn McKnight:IYes, I suggested Moodle before as well
Sivasubramanian M:yes, many, but moodle is a good one, for a start
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:too early at this stage I would have thought Siva /Glenes but post pilot y
Carlos Dionisio Aguirre:nobody can denied the advantage of translations and interpretations, but I think this course was defined in english. I think also, we can in the future to see the budget possibilities to do a multilingual seminar
Glenn McKnight:Many good E book editors are available for creation of the training materials and the ebooks should be available via Smart PHones
Sivasubramanian M:If the committee is inclined to take a look, I will have a skeleton moodle environment built by our next meeting
Sivasubramanian M:as a visual proof of concept
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:tnat IS essential @Glen Yes agree
Fatima Cambronero:agree with @Carlos
Glenn McKnight:I will volunteer with SIVA on the Moodle test and we could demo it in CR
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:Where is the curriculum?
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:good ? OCL
Glenn McKnight:Most schools Use Moodle for curicullum developemtn
Sivasubramanian M:curriculum is on email @olivier
Sivasubramanian M:gleen, thanks
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:Yes Glen I use it commercially as well
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:that's not good enough. URL please?
Heidi Ullrich:It will be posted in a moment
Glenn McKnight:I gave my comments already online and on the WIKI
Sivasubramanian M:@olivier can't find it online. did the next best thing mailed it now
Heidi Ullrich:Draft Curriculum is available here: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Improve/pages/109589526/At-Large+ICANN+Academy+Curriculum
Heidi Ullrich:Apologies for the delay
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:It's about time, Heidi. This should have been online a while ago already
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:Sandra, please make sure all docs are online in time for everyone to access and not only the lucky few in the email thread
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:++++ to what @Bill is saying this IS essential IMO
Sivasubramanian M:Heidi, another suggestion, there are many pages, but comments are at page https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Improve/pages/109588995/ICANN+Academy+Proposal Those who land in other pages would miss the comments
Glenn McKnight:I don't think we should miss the issue of MOODLE test site
Sivasubramanian M:Is there a better way of organizing the wiki pages
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:Excellent comments indeed from Bill
Bill Drake:@Avri where in the extant categories do such themes get covered, I just can't tell
Bill Drake:Why not a section on ICANN and the developing countries, full stop?
Carlos Dionisio Aguirre:@Bill good point
avri:@Bill as a descriptive section it would be enpty, as a normative section it sounds like an intersting idea.
Bill Drake:would be easy enough to fill it in, one would think...
Glenn McKnight:I offered some good short video clips for use in the courseware. But more short clips need to done in CR
avri:@glenn: I somehow think MOODLe is a good thing to explore but it seems more relevant to the larger community effrot as opposed to this pilot effort fr newly (s)elected SOAC/Board members..
Glenn McKnight:Moodle would be a tool for the content creators not the SOAC /Board
Eduardo Diaz:HArd to understand - not good connection
Glenn McKnight:Can't understand Siva
Heidi Ullrich:We are trying to improve his line.
Glenn McKnight:Perhaps he can type
Heidi Ullrich:that is better, Siva
Glenn McKnight:better
Bill Drake:is he on a speaker fone?
Wolf Ludwig: You are hardly audible, Siva!
Glenn McKnight:Not bettter
avri:@glenn: i will look at it over the next days. so this is something that ICANN would have to install on a server?
Glenn McKnight:SIVA pick up the phone......
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:too many people are on speakerphones
Carlos Dionisio Aguirre:sound is very bad
Siranush Vardanyan:my phone connection is disconnected
Sivasubramanian M:ok
Sivasubramanian M:I willleave the comments
Wolf Ludwig:Your contribution is geeting lost in an echooooo ...
Sivasubramanian M:and will ask some one to read it out
Gisella Gruber-White:Hi Siva - we will call you back if you wish
Glenn McKnight:Sure
Gisella Gruber-White:Siranush disconnected - redialling
Siranush Vardanyan:Gisella, please, dial me out again
Oksana Prykhodko:I fully support Sandra, but I would like to come back again to the idea ofICANN Academy summaries and, let me say, ICANN Academy Embassadors, who can present their key points visiting different countries. Such approach can combine face-to-face model advantages, and broader audience
Siranush Vardanyan:thanks
Sivasubramanian M:for the record, may I request some one to read out the following few points:
Gisella Gruber-White:@ Siva - do you want us to call you on antoher number?
Glenn McKnight:I can
avri:Does this call get transcripted?
Gisella Gruber-White:Siranush is back
Gisella Gruber-White:@ Avri - yes
Siranush Vardanyan:i am back, thanks
Sivasubramanian M:1. The Academy sessions could be recorded and made available for the community
avri:@Gisella: good that will help in terms of capturing people's spoken comments during the meeting.
Sivasubramanian M:2. Local communities could tranlate the content in full or in summary form, for the first few academy programs, without the need for a budget for translation
Gisella Gruber-White:I will circulate as soon as we receive it back
avri:@Siva: that is the intention in the plan. Record, and even perhaps add subtitles if we can find the post-funding
Sivasubramanian M:3. We can experiment on the moodle platform to consider coming up with an online version of the Academy. The platform could be moodle or anything else, but for the sake of discussion, I and Glenn would volunteer to build a moodle framework as a visual aid for disscussion.
Bill Drake:I didn't realize we were done on curriculum, so just a quick point: I think there's a need for a session on ICANN organizational culture per se
avri:@siva, my concern is for accurate traslation. but if that can be gotten on a volunteer basis, that is cool. My expereince has been otherwise in the wider world. I find it take specialists at the general topic to translate acurately.
Sandra Hoferichter:Bill : point taken
Sivasubramanian M:4. I posted a proposal for long-term development of the academy. While the progress on the first academy is very good, we could take up some of the points for discussion for the academy's long term future
avri:@bill: i think that could be included with architecture.
Heidi Ullrich:At-Large Sunday Workshop agenda: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/atlarge/pages/99555422/At-Large+Meetings+-+Sunday+11+March+2012
Heidi Ullrich:The PPC community consultation is tentatively scheduled for Thursday morning
Bill Drake:@Avri depends on how the session outline is structured etc....bottom line is there are a lot of specificities that are really very different from other environments, and which coming from some cultures can seem off putting or even repressive
Wolf Ludwig:@SIVA -- Are you still raising your hand to speak?
Sivasubramanian M:@avri agree with your comments on the need for accuracy. But in some communities, there could be volunteers good at tranlation, willinhg to spend a bit of time to at least summarize. A summary, cross checked by RALO would be better than none in a situation of no budget
Wolf Ludwig:Or you just forgot to lower it?
Sivasubramanian M:no I dropped my hand
Sivasubramanian M:there is some problem on the audio so I have left some comment to be read out aloud for record by some one else, please
avri:i would like people to think about subtitles as a medium of translation. i find that helps with hearing the jargon and language culture while still gettting the meaning.
avri:at least it does when i am listeing to things in langauges i only know a little of.
Bill Drake:I think it would be GREAT to have real time subtitling to all ICANN conversations, for newbies. Like when muricans try to understand Scots...
Glenn McKnight:Who is reading out Siva's Comments
Sivasubramanian M:@ avri To clarify on the point of community tranlation, I don't think that the idea of community tranlation would result in tranlation across ALL languages, but it could happen n one or two language regions
Fatima Cambronero:yes, @Bill, I agree with you
Oksana Prykhodko:@avri +++
Sivasubramanian M:Sandra, could you ask someone to read my comments
Gisella Gruber-White:Siva can hear us well so he needs his comments read please
Raquel Gatto:thank you for the clarification :)
Raquel Gatto:sorry
Bill Drake:Does anyone have any idea when there will be at least a tentative draft schedule for San Jose? It's impossible to figure out how and when to organize meetings!
Sivasubramanian M:there are four points, that I mentioned
Sivasubramanian M:Thanks Avri :)
Sivasubramanian M:no avri
Sivasubramanian M:on point 4, i suggested we could take it up for discussion now or later, when we have time
Heidi Ullrich:Link to Moodle: http://moodle.org/
avri:does ICANN currently support the Moodle cms?
Bill Drake:it would be good to circulate at least a two page document. some may not be able to attend the meeting given scheduling problems
Sivasubramanian M:On Olivier's response to point 1: Academy sessions would be different, because it might require permission from the Teachers to publish them.
avri:@OCL: should it be updated before sharing?
Wolf Ludwig:Agree with Bill! A good summary should be prepared for CR -- "leaflet" version incl.!
avri:i.e does this group want the 'rogram committee' to update it based on what we have heard before we spread it.
avri:don't we have to meet publications schedules
Wolf Ludwig:plus 1, Tijani!
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:Shiva: the teachers are ICANN staff & any outside teacher will have to agree to being recorded. It's all part of the transparency in ICANN. I'd hate to hear that classes were held behind closed doors.
Sivasubramanian M:I recorded all sessions at Meissen in 2009, but refrained from posting them on youtube or elsewhere, because it was suggested to me that I write to the teachers for permisison, and another reason was that I had recoreded about 40 GB of video and didn't know how to handle editing
Sivasubramanian M:so that point was raised with this (wrong?) understanding
Olivier Crepin-Leblond:here, it's an ICANN Academy, so ICANN rules
Sivasubramanian M::)
Wolf Ludwig:Thanks, Sandra, and all for inputs etc.!
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:Thanks all ...
Raquel Gatto:thank you all!
Cheryl Langdon-Orr:bye
Fatima Cambronero:thanks to all!
Sivasubramanian M:for clairity, it was just a gentle informal suggestion at meissen but i took it seriously
Siranush Vardanyan:thanks all and bye
Eduardo Diaz:bye
Glenn McKnight:Thanks all
Sivasubramanian M:bye everyone
Fatima Cambronero:bye
Heidi Ullrich:Bye. Thanks everyone!
Sandra Hoferichter:Thank you and Bye!
Oksana Prykhodko:Thank you< sandra and all!
