Seth Greene: WT A CHAT:  13 JANUARY 2011

Seth Greene: Hello, everyone.

Seth Greene: EVAN informs me he needs to be a few minutes late today; it’s unavoidable. He sends his apology.

Seth Greene: EVAN also asked me to include in the Chat his following comments (from Skype):  I totally agree with the wording for the bylaw change but wonder why all the fuss about ''non-binding.”  The very purpose behind having it in the bylaws is to ensure that it guides future actions and definitions.

Evan Leibovitch: and welcome, Dev!

Dev Anand Teelucksingh: ''policies created through ICANN's Supporting Organizations'' = should this include ''Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees'' ?

CLO: +11111  to Yrio

CLO: YUP  Policy IS SO business

Samantha Eisner: The Governmental Advisory Committee should consider and provide advice on the activities of ICANN as they relate to concerns of governments, particularly matters where there may be an interaction between ICANN's policies and various laws and international agreements or where they may affect public policy issues.

CLO: ICANN receives input from governments through the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC). The GAC's key role is to provide advice to ICANN on issues of public policy. In particular, the GAC considers ICANN's activities and policies as they relate to the concerns of governments, particularly in matters where there may be an interaction between ICANN's policies and national laws or international agreements.

Eric Brunner-Williams: that would appear to prevent the gac from expressing a point of view on private law contract matters, such as prices or .xxx or ...

Seth Greene (privately): Want to remind you that we have next agenda item also to do with Sam.

Evan Leibovitch (privately): ok. closing off now
