The following document is a work-in-progress. It still needs work on both its text and formatting. (In particular, copy and pasting from Word to the Confluence page is introducing some anomolies, in this case.)

Outline/Storyboard ideas

- How DNS works
- Nice example at http://igoro.com/archive/what-really-happens-when-you-navigate-to-a-url/ which shows the steps but has to be simpler
- Understanding domain names
- concepts of a domain name, top level domains, registry, registrar, registrant.
- Registrants are the individuals or organisations who register or license specific domain names for a specific period of time and for a fee from registrars.
Registrars are organizations accredited by ICANN that processes the registration for the domain name (once the domain name is available) and transmits the name and registration details to the registry
operator which operates the registry (the master database) for the generic Top Level Domain (gTLDs). Currently, there are 21 gTLDs including .com, .net and .org
- Registrants are the individuals or organisations who register or license specific domain names for a specific period of time and for a fee from registrars.
- What is ICANN ?
- Overview of ICANN Board showing the SO/ACs
- What ICANN does
- what ICANN does NOT do (monitor content on websites, control ccTLDs policies)

- WHOIS
- Why participate?
- ICANN is multi-stakeholder ; the AoC and ICANN's strategic plan has consumer's interests , there
- if you have an interest on how the policies on DNS and domain names, YOU (an end user, a consumer) can get involved
