Overview & Background:
The annual Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building recognizes ICANN community members for significant efforts in developing capacity in areas related to ICANN's mission. The ideal recipient will have at least five years of significant contributions to national, regional, or global capacity-building programs related to ICANN's Mission; and developing capacity-building programs that positively influenced the multistakeholder model and diversified participation at ICANN. The ICANN Board will select the recipient based on the award criteria.

Criteria: | Candidates will be evaluated by the ICANN Board against two criteria. The ideal recipient will have at least five years of: - Significant contributions to national, regional, or global capacity-building programs related to ICANN's Mission
- Developing capacity-building programs that positively influenced the multistakeholder model and diversified participation at ICANN

Nominations: | All nominations must include specific and verifiable information as to why each nominee meets the two award criteria, including any further documentation as required to ensure that evaluators would be able to evaluate all nominations, regardless of familiarity with the nominee. Nominators may be called upon to provide further information regarding the nominees (via teleconference). All nominations to be submitted via the nomination form. Nominations will open on 20 July 2020, supporting documentation and/or questions may be submitted via email: kamelaward@icann.org by 21 August 2020. Please see the announcement here. |
Selection process: | A cross-functional ICANN org review panel considers the nominations in light of the criteria and recommends a shortlist of nominees to the ICANN Board. The Board reviews the shortlist and makes the selection based on the award criteria. |
Staff Support: | Staff maintains the Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building Wiki Space, creates the nomination form and collects nominations, provides the ICANN Board with required documentation. Staff coordinates with other departments as necessary for the award ceremony. |
