ICANN Globalization Survey 2012

ICANN Globalization Survey 21 March 2012 - 22 April 2012

ICANN conducted a Globalization Survey from 21 March 2012 to 22 April 2012 in order to solicit community input on improving its effectiveness as a global organization. ICANN asked community participants and leaders from all regions of the world to answer questions regarding ICANN’s performance as a global organization. The survey was available in the UN languages, and feedback was encouraged from all stakeholder groups.

The ICANN Globalization Survey was organized into three main Sections:

1) Help ICANN understand its relative strengths and challenges as a global participant;

2) Evaluate ICANN’s major organizational functions/processes and the extent to which they can be leveraged to improve ICANN’s effectiveness and reputation globally; and

3) Assist ICANN in prioritizing initiatives that will improve its effectiveness as a global organization.

Survey respondents were asked to rate the Performance Effectiveness of each individual service utilizing a 5-point scale, from: 1-Highly Dissatisfied (to) 5-Highly Satisfied. Every section also included a text box for comments, and participants were encouraged to provide supporting information and examples where appropriate.

Here is a brief overview of the raw data from the ICANN Globalization Survey

  • The survey generated a total of 150 responses
  • Nearly 50% self- identified their ICANN region as Europe
  • More than 25% indicated that they were primarily affiliated with an I* organization
  • 20% indicated that they were primarily affiliated with the ccNSO
  • Respondents from the ASO, GAC, and SSAC each made up less than 1.3% of the respondents

It has been challenging to draw specific conclusions due to the number and distribution of the survey respondents.

ICANN would very much like to thank all who participated in the survey.
