DESCRIPTION

This session, the second in our Regulatory Updates Briefings with ICANN’s Governmental Engagement Team, will explore the implications of the recently adopted UN Cybercrime Convention and the Second Additional Protocol to the Budapest Convention for the Domain Name System. The session will address growing sovereignty concerns and discuss how ICANN’s multistakeholder model can strengthen global Internet governance. We will review the current state of ratifications and discuss the way forward for both conventions, with a particular focus on cross-border data access. The session will also cover the challenges faced by the UN Convention, particularly regarding data privacy, sovereignty, and the need for balancing security needs with human rights protections.
