ICANN Meeting 59 Johannesburg – SSAC Liaison Report

1. SSAC MEETING WITH ALAC. The SSAC met with the ALAC on Thursday 29 June and discussed recent SSAC documents including
SAC093: SSAC Advisory on the Use of Emoji in Domain Names; and
SAC097: SSAC Advisory Regarding the Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS) and Registry Operator Monthly Activity Reports
The ALAC enquired about the current status of conflicting views between the SSAC and the ccNSO on the ccNSO EPSRP Working Group’s Proposed Guidelines, released on 23 June 2016, for the evaluation of confusing similarity in IDN ccTLDs. At the written request of the ICANN Board, the SSAC and the ccNSO have formed a small Working Group to work on this topic and to try to formulate an acceptable resolution. The first meeting of that Working Group occurred on Thursday 29 June.
2. SSAC INVOLVEMENT IN CCWG ACCOUNTABILITY. As one of the two SSAC Representatives on the CCWG-A, I attended the scheduled Working Session from 0830-1800 on Sunday 25 June.
The SSAC was briefed on CCWG-A status and progress in detail during the SSAC Admin Committee Meeting on Monday 26 June (which was attended by the majority of SSAC Members present at Johannesburg. It was noted that the following SSAC Inputs have been provided over the last few months:
