The ALAC FY26 Strategic Priorities and Core Activities document received unanimous ALAC endorsement between 26-28 August 2025

Strategic Objective 1: Evolve and promote ICANN’s Multistakeholder Model to sustain its inclusive Approach to Internet Governance

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SG-1.1 Ensure inclusive stakeholder representation and enhance collaboration

S-1.1.2 Enhance collaboration among community groups

  • Strengthen individual end-user voice in ICANN policy-making and governance matters

  • Encourage cross- RALO pilots on specific policy topics, to foster direct collaboration and the exchange of best practices between regions.

 

  • Build on participation in key fora eg. SOAC Roundtable, bilateral / cross-community engagement opportunities

  • Focus on relationship building / management via ALAC Appointees (scope / metrics)

S-1.1.3 Foster appealing environment for next generation

  • Strengthen engagement with ICANN Fellows and NextGens

  • Run an ALAC Program for NextGen and Fellows, in coordination with mentors

  • Encourage RALOs to engage with Fellows post ICANN public meetings

S-1.1.4 Develop a new generation of leaders

 

 

S-1.1.5 Increase and broaden participation, particularly from underrepresented communities

  • Encourage RALO outreach and engagement initiatives to fulfill S-1.1.5

 

  • Broaden regional, economic, community and linguistic participation in ICANN

  • Ensure correct implemen-tation of relevant adopted policies for the Next Round of New gTLDs, in relation to end-user needs - namely the Applicant Support Program, contention resolution reform, IDNs, and TLD variant management policies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SG-1.2: Enhance the agility and effectiveness of policy and advice development

S-1.2.1 Reduce complexity and create incentives to encourage active participation

  • Strengthen support for At-Large policy development participation and discussions

SG-4.1 Strengthen partnerships with relevant stakeholders to reinforce the shared responsibility of ensuring secure and stable Internet’s unique identifier systems

S-4.1.1 Continue to provide and participate in trusted forums that convene relevant stakeholders

  • Convene or participate in initiatives aimed at achieving more impactful DNS abuse mitigation, name collision mitigation and minimization of end-user confusion risks

  • Build community capacity through Phishing course (from ACES)

  • Seek, draw on data / research to support decision-making for mitigating DNS abuse, name collision, and end-user confusion risks

  • Encourage RALOs to use DNS Abuse education as a means to broaden participation of under-represented groups 

  • Convene or participate in trusted global forums on DNS Abuse with key stakeholders to strengthen system security and stability through a multi-stakeholder approach.

  • Convene or participate in opportunities for periodic examination of policies requiring DNS Abuse mitigation with the goal of either refining or expanding on such policies through a multi-stakeholder approach
