Workshop - Developing a Consumer Agenda for ICANN
Workshop – Developing a Consumer Agenda for ICANN
ICANN 38
Brussels, 23 June 2010
Introduction:
ICANN’s Affirmation of Commitments refers to the wide policy accountability of ICANN to public interest, global Internet users and consumers. A number of community members within ICANN are working to reflect the interests of Internet users and consumers in the policy decisions and ongoing work of ICANN. The workshop will provide a forum for a cross-community discussion on how best to further develop a Consumer Agenda for ICANN.
Aim:
To begin a dialogue to develop an appropriate and shared Consumer Agenda for ICANN.
Background – see page 3ff for more details
ICANN’s Affirmation of Commitments includes commitments to “decisions… in the public interest” and to “promote competition, consumer trust and consumer choice”
At present the GNSO’s Non Commercial Stakeholder Group is developing a Charter and the Board is considering a proposal to from a Consumers Constituency. ALAC provides advice to ICANN on the interests on individual Internet users. GAC works to ensure public policy principles are factored into the work of ICANN constituencies.
Many groups in ICANN share an interest in public interest, public policy and consumer issues.
The workshop provides a forum for a shared discussion about how ICANN’s Affirmation of Commitments can inform the ongoing work of the ICANN community
