Notes from 5 March 2024 APAC Space Session

The APAC Space session at ICANN79 was held on 5 March 2024. There were 37 onsite participants with 5 online attendees. Given the location of ICANN79 (San Juan), there were more community veterans than newcomers, although there were two or three new faces who joined because they wanted to reconnect with the APAC community.

Apart from Maureen Hilyard presenting on NomCom’s call for leadership application, there were no suggested topics from the community for this APAC Space, and we had an informal roundtable discussion on issues members were working on or preoccupied with. This led to an interesting discussion on why the APAC veterans participated, as well as the value behind such participation, despite challenges such as calls being held in time zones that are unfriendly to APAC participants. Notable points including the need for the APAC community to be represented; an unparalleled experience in servant leadership; and the opportunity to develop skills beyond one’s day-to-day role.
