Summary Minutes and Action Items
Tuesday 11 September 2012 at 1700 UTC

1.  Introduction - Dev Anand Teelucksingh (2 min)

  • The Introduction was given.

2.  Roll Call - Staff (2 min)

  • The roll call was held.

3.  Review/Update of RG SOIs - Dev Anand Teelucksingh (5 mins)

  • DAT: Have there been any changes in the status of our RG? Are there any changes to the SOI?
  • There were no changes.

4.  Discussion of any comments raised on the new gTLD Dashboard (10 mins)

  • DAT: There is no need to give out new gTLDs with full words that do not have significant cultural value.
  • SR: I think I was the lone dissenter for the New Zealand group. The monopolistic threat of generic words not being available to all is worrying. Perhaps I do not fully appreciate out role. Can someone point me to a document that defines our role?
  • DAT: For comments that go towards the evaluation panels, it cannot be a general comment. It needs to be a specific objection to a specific application.
  • SR: I didn't think that our group should not take notice of issues that are relevant simply because they could have been raised earlier.
  • DAT: Really, to decide a policy on new gTLDs, is out of scope for the RG. The RG function is to coordinate the filing of comments against specific applications and applicants.
  • DAT: Perhaps, if we find an issue on policy, we can provide information to the ALAC in the hopes that they provide a Statement.

5.  Discussion of timeline of gTLD RG activities during remainder of objection period (10 mins)

  • DAT: If we work backwards from Jan 2013, in December 2012 the RG should have all of its objections prepared. This timeframe may be difficult for many, so I think that we should - at the very most - we finalize out work by the first week of December. December 7

6.  Developing a one page summary of the ALAC/At-Large Objection Process (10 mins)

  • DAT: November 7 -deadline for comments from At-Large to be received by the gTLD RG ; gTLD RG to review comments received by At-Large and decide whether to draft a formal objection statement based on comments received
  • DAT: December 7 - (any) formal objection statements to be posted for RALOs to review and decide whether to advise ALAC to file the objection by end of December
  • DAT: We will try to complete this by Friday.
  • HU: Perhaps the note can be translated into FR and ES
  • DAT: Yes, that would be great.

7.  Any other business, Next Steps - Dev Anand Teelucksingh (5 min)

  • There was no other business.
