When ALAC, At-Large will do the same?
09:41:28 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
@Alan -- the point was that everyone knows how to do the google and make comments there. I am not sure how we will do that now
09:41:54 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
google.doc -- sory
09:43:05 From Maureen Hilyard to Everyone:
@Marita.. as Carlos said.. is we want to continue to use google doc for some processes that is up to us as we work towards a comment.
09:43:18 From alangreenberg to Everyone:
@Marita. I am looking it on a longer scale thinking back to when GoogleDocs were the new kid on the block and no one knew how to use them (and in some cases could not and still cannot access them). There is still SIGNIFICANT pushback for using GoogleDocs as input to current public comments.
09:44:49 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@JZ in the improved new Public Comments interface, comments are still reduced to spreadsheets?
09:45:35 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
I agree with Alan - I myself do not like G-doc, but got used to that - I am sure that we will need some learning time, but maybe the result will be better - in any case, it will widely reduce staff’s time
09:45:42 From Dave Kissoondoyal to Everyone:
It is good to bring new blood
09:45:46 From Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond to Everyone:

09:46:07 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
Siva, in a way, yes. The point is that WGs have come to reply on a structured breakdown of comments and many don’t actually read the comments but only the staff summaries. With the new system, WE are in control of how these structured reports look
09:46:35 From Dave Kissoondoyal to Everyone:
Thank-you @Leon
09:46:45 From Matthias M. Hudobnik to Everyone:
Great update leon!
09:46:51 From Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond to Everyone:
Sad to see some Board members leaving that were really supporting At-Large and were regularly taking part in At-Large calls. Let us hope that the new ones are going to take an equal interest in At-Large.
09:46:51 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
@Roberto indeed we need to use the new tools in order to know how beneficial they are. We cannot evaluate without trying
09:47:25 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
@JZ -- proof will be in the pudding -- we will have to really get to know how to optimize our use of the form
09:47:42 From León Felipe Sánchez Ambía to Everyone:
Thank you very much Maureen and everyone!
09:47:45 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
What we need is a system of summarising every comment into a tweet-like headline, or a paragraph of defined length, if summarised by staff, agreed by the commenter, or a summary caption by the commenter him(her)self
09:47:53 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
Thank you Leon
09:48:00 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
I hope we reach out to those stepping down Litto and Ron are excellent examples of people who might still engage... SSAC never loose anyone nor will ccNSO loose their rep.

09:48:27 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Otherwise, comment could be accidentally diluted

09:48:58 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
@siva - my worry exactly -- reducing everything to tweets

Great to see you JZ!
09:49:27 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Not summer for all the world
09:50:14 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@Marita and JZ and also a way of linking the full comment as a PDF to the summary in the summary document, by way of an internal link, making the comment summary as a summary + origninal submission single doucment

spreadsheets are unwieldly, even to gather inputs, and even to read, especially when most participants might use a phone or a device with a small screen

09:52:47 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@Justine what are the rules of participation?
09:53:11 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
@Siva, I don't anticipate any change on that
09:54:19 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Well that takes care of my points to raise from the ALAC GNSO Council Liaison see https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/GNSO+Liaison+Reports
09:55:41 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@Cheryl your points on Transfer Policy or on EPDP constitution?
09:55:57 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Reolution was re IGO
09:56:08 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Thanks Cheryl
09:56:16 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Transfer Policy is not at a point of Council resolves yet
09:59:44 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
I was asking the question because Jonathan was saying something when you posted the chat, and was trying to figure out if you were responding to the chat or to what JZ was saying. Thanks.
09:59:58 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
A point well made @OCL!!!
10:00:04 From Herb Waye to Everyone:
Hello everyone… sorry it appears I am arriving late
10:00:06 From Maureen Hilyard to Everyone:
A very important point Olivier. CPWG input is imperative.
10:00:34 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Welcome @Herb
10:00:49 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
+1 OCL
10:01:22 From Herb Waye to Everyone:
I see now things started at 4 UTC… my bad
10:01:28 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
No matter what we discuss in ALAC (and in other AC/SOs, it is only the summary that forms the basis of any decision taken, which is why it is important to pay attention to the comment processing process.
10:01:31 From Herb Waye to Everyone:
TY Cheryl
10:02:33 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Exactly why these changes in ITI and OC input is so vauable IMO @JZ
10:03:19 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
For SURE, @CLO
10:03:25 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
The prose will still be arch9ved for the record as the AC's in particular will continue to provide it
10:04:39 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
Great use of advice! My point is that they’re missing that nuance, looking at staff summaries, rather than reading comments
10:04:53 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
archives are like files in a labrynthine of a file rack. Like in Yes Minister, when the Minsiter wanted some document destroyed, the Chief Secretary says, In that case, I will file it.
10:04:54 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
I guess @Alan that is where the success of influence of any one we have IN a PDP working with the CPWG model is so important
10:05:07 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
correct @Alan -- we should not have to shoehorn responses to fit the questions
10:05:49 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
It is the summary that makes or breaks a comment that is made over a 90 day comment period, and it is the summary that makes or breaks the deliberations of a WG over years.
10:05:53 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
you don't @Marita input as document or PDF is still welcome ...
10:06:15 From alangreenberg to Everyone:
@Cheryl, yes, that is why we try. but not always successfully. Recent EPDP PC was a great example. The key question (in our mind) was NOT asked.
10:07:07 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
that is the process @Alan as you well know and again why Chartering is so darn important for us to engage in
10:07:17 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
OFB update?
10:08:00 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
+1 Alan - The answers you receive depend on the questions you ask
10:08:10 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
@CLO, I honestly don’t believe that docs and PDFs being “still welcome” is the answer. We need to fight WITHIN WGs to get better questions asked and use Advice for the rest. Submitting long commentaries that are ultimately ignored by the WG serves only to create more work and artificially makes us feel better.
10:09:14 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:

10:10:32 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
Priority Initiatives:

Strengthen MSM - facilitate diverse and inclusive participation
Strengthen ICANN Community’s Decision making processes
Universal Acceptance (tied with 2)
Planning at ICANN
Monitor legislation, etc that may impact on ICANN’s mission
10:10:47 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Cheryl, please try and scroll down the page (that your link pointed) and see if an average user, or an average ICANN participant can make any sense out of what is going on, let alone locate something specific,
10:12:05 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
Thanks Cheryl for the link
10:12:59 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
(my comment was about the interface, about the design features of the wiki)

@Siva in general the Liaisons work with what we formally have, some of us also work for general chages to benefir users in those tools...
10:15:58 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
That objective is definitely fulfilled, may be I was taking about some sort of 'at a glance" technology, may be in addition to wiki
10:16:36 From Claudia Ruiz to Everyone:
https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/ICANN72+Plenary+Topic+Proposals+from+At-Large
10:17:41 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
@Cheryl, even for liaisons and wg members,ac/so and board members, some form of 'at a glance" tech would be invaluable.
10:17:52 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
in addition to wiki
10:18:57 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
No disagreement @Siva my personal attempt is to keep current important issues at top of page, redesign and tool options are of course needing to be worked on...
10:18:58 From JUDITH' hellerstein to Everyone:
We sent a poll
10:19:19 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
The Poll was sent for the plenary sessions.
10:20:33 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
Thank you Cheryl. I actually missed the point about keeping all records in one page, and was also unfamiliar with conventions such as keeping current issues on top.
10:20:53 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
The poll was sent on 21st August, I believe.
10:21:07 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:

If not, please share the link to the poll.
10:26:59 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Most of us in Virtual mode work as well as conference thus the extra load travel to a venue certainly requires time off for those not paid to attend, but virtual attendees are always pushed in many ways, at least everyone shares that pain thes days
10:27:13 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
Once we go back to face-to-face /and begin Hybrid, the inter-sessional week will not be possible as no interpretation and people will be traveling.

09:40:11 From Jana Juginovic to Everyone:
Thanks everyone! and let us know what you think on Tuesday by emailing informationtransparency@icann.org.
09:40:24 From Alfredo Calderon (ICANN72 Mentor) to Everyone:
Thank you @Jana and @Carlos for the latest update.
09:40:36 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
Thanks for turning on your camera, Leon!
09:40:57 From Dave Kissoondoyal to Everyone:
Not aware of
09:41:07 From Sébastien Bachollet to Everyone:
Sad to see some Board members go - but most of the new ones are insiders so probably not a big issue to get the new ones up to speed
09:45:57 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Thank you @Lëon.... Let's hopr some of the Board rolling off will stay well engaged with the Community they are comfortable with...
09:45:59 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
NomCom leadership selections: https://www.icann.org/nomcom2021
09:48:04 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@JZ
09:48:27 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Otherwise, comment could be accidentally diluted
09:48:34 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
+1 Cheryl
09:48:38 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
even, important points skipped or ignored
09:48:58 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
@siva - my worry exactly -- reducing everything to tweets
09:49:12 From León Felipe Sánchez Ambía to Everyone:
Great to see you JZ!
09:49:27 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Not summer for all the world
09:50:14 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
@Marita and JZ and also a way of linking the full comment as a PDF to the summary in the summary document, by way of an internal link, making the comment summary as a summary + origninal submission single doucment
09:50:37 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
CPWG workspace - https://community.icann.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=82411661
09:51:00 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
spreadsheets are unwieldly, even to gather inputs, and even to read, especially when most participants might use a phone or a device with a small screen
09:51:28 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Or we need a bloglike interface
09:51:32 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
The At-Large Policy Workspace contains all the current policy advice development activities: https://community.icann.org/display/alacpolicydev/At-Large+Policy+Advice+Development+Page
09:51:45 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
with a caption, summary, and full-content
09:52:27 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
The IGO Work Track is now going to be an EPDP - GNSO Council has approved that move
Exactly why these changes in ITI and OC input is so valuable IMO @JZ
10:03:19 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
For SURE, @CLO
10:03:25 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
The prose will still be archived for the record as the AC's in particular will continue to provide it
10:04:39 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
Justine gave the GNSO Liaison report for this months Council meeting in chat earlier and I repeat my link to the wiki for that role again below... Resolutions and recordings only at this stage, as Minutes are not yet released … https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/GNSO+Liaison+Reports

Top 5 At-Large Operating Initiatives for FY21-FY26:

10:13:31 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
I preferred to have the wiki as a full and accurate record and update the highlights verbally as well but change is always welcome

ICANN72
10:15:22 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
@Siva in general the Liaisons work with what we formally have, some of us also work for general chages to benefir users in those tools...
10:15:58 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
That objective is definitely fulfilled, maybe I was talking about some sort of 'at a glance" technology, may be in addition to wiki
10:21:07 From SivasubramanianM to Everyone:
but this technology still needs to be streamlined
10:22:31 From Matthias M. Hudobnik to Everyone:
+1 SeB
10:22:34 From Abdulkarim Oloyede to Everyone:
+1 Seb
10:22:51 From Jonathan Zuck to Everyone:
Agree. These ICANN meetings have become mostly an annoyance to the majority of the community
10:22:55 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
+1 SeB - hopefully, the last one in this format
10:23:20 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
The poll was sent on 22 August
10:23:23 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
And the Deadline: THREE ICANN72 plenary topics by Wednesday 25 August at 23:59 UTC.
10:24:13 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
Is this poll for alac members only?
10:24:17 From Abdulkarim Oloyede to Everyone:
Time zone is one issue, Burnout is another
10:24:32 From Sivasubramanian M to Everyone:
If not, please share the link to the poll.
10:26:59 From Cheryl Langdon-Orr to Everyone:
Most of us in Virtual mode work as well as conference thus the extra load travel to a venue certainly requires time off for those not paid to attend, but virtual attendees are always pushed in many ways, at least everyone shares that pain thes days
10:27:13 From Heidi Ullrich to Everyone:
Once we go back to face-to-face /and begin Hybrid, the inter-sessional week will not be possible as no interpretation and people will be traveling.
10:28:14 From Herb Waye to Everyone:
Take care everyone, stay safe and be kind
10:28:22 From Joanna Kulesza to Everyone:
Thanks all!
10:28:25 From hadia Elminiawi to Everyone:
